Spring garden design is always thrilling.  Companion planting with attention to crop rotation makes every year different.  Notice the row covers I use over my seeds.  Throughout my years of gardening, I have found that covering my newly planted seeds improves their germination time.  It also prevents birds from carrying off my new seedlings which haven’t yet established deep roots.  seedling in cage surround

Small cages placed around plants transplanted, while still small, keep their shallow roots firmly in the soil and safe from birds.  These surrounds cover my peppers in this photo.
